Res Ipsa Staff Picks 2019: Pt. II, The 7 Most Anticipated TV Series in 2019 | Res Ipsa

With all the time in the world to indulge in the finest things during this long, cold winter, we are hunkering down someplace warm and sharing our staff picks for all things literature, film and TV series. In Pt. II, we feature our 7 most anticipated TV series in 2019. From a new 90's Boston Crime series starring Kevin Bacon and produced by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon to an Emmy-winning series about a murder mystery story that spans over 3 decades featuring Oscar Winner Mahershala Ali to our favorite 80's neighborhood kids confronting terrifying forces, there's something here for everyone. Enjoy escaping reality and dropping into these worlds in 2019!

1. Game Of Thrones Season 8 (Final Season) — Stream it on HBO (Seasons 1-7 on HBO). Premieres April 2019.
About the series: "Bow down to TV’s last great water-cooler show. We’ve only got six more episodes of the HBO fantasy epic to marvel at and argue over, as David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will present a conclusion to George R.R. Martin’s sprawling story (while Martin himself still struggles to finish the penultimate book in the series, let alone start writing his own version of the ending). Will the Night King overrun Westeros? Will Jon Snow and Daenerys ever figure out they’re kissing cousins (and will they care if they do)? And are six episodes — even movie-length ones — enough to adequately say goodbye to Tyrion, Arya, Sansa, Brienne of Tarth, Bronn and the rest of the gang? Let the spectacle — and endless debates — begin." - Rolling Stone

2. True Detective Season 3 — Stream it on HBO. Premiere's tonight (2 episodes), 1/13/2019 at 9:00 ET (Seasons 1 & 2 on HBO). Will season 3 feature Ali at this best? Can season 3 break out of season 1's shadow? Tune in tonight to find out!
About the series: "Partner detectives investigate a macabre crime involving two missing children in the heart of the Ozarks, Arkansas. The story spans three decades." - HBO

3. Schitts Creek Season 5  Premieres January 16 @ 10/9c. Stream the new season only on Pop (Seasons 1-4 available on Netflix).

About the series: "Season 5 will see the formerly wealthy family looking ahead, hoping to take things to the next level. Moira's (Catherine O'Hara) film shoot in Bosnia will have renewed her sense of purpose (and sense of hope of ever leaving Schitt's Creek) and she'll funnel that new energy into her most ambitious artistic project yet. Meanwhile, the Rosebud Motel will be reaching new heights under Johnny's (Eugene Levy) leadership, but managing the needs of his staff will prove to be a major struggle. David (Dan Levy) will be focusing on his relationship with Patrick (Noah Reid), which leads him to do the unexpected — join a baseball team — while Alexis (Annie Murphy) will try to spice things up with Ted (Dustin Milligan) and consider a move that could result in her leaving the small town behind." - TV Guide

4. Stranger Things Season 3  Released July 4, 2019. Stream it on Netflix (Seasons 1 & 2 available on Netflix). What will happen next in Hawkins, IN?

About the Series: Discover everything Radio Times knows and predicts for a summer that can change everything...

City on a Hill
5. City on a Hill  Premiere date TBA. Stream it on Showtime. Is it reminiscent of fan-favorites "Mystic River" and "The Town"? We'll have to wait to see if the Boston boys will have quite the new show for us in 2019.
About the series: "Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are heading back to Boston, and they’re taking “Mystic River” star Kevin Bacon with them. “City on a Hill” is based on Affleck’s original idea and set in the early ’90s, when Boston was bursting with violent criminals barely kept in check by a corrupt police force. Enter outsider Decourcy Ward (Aldis Hodge), a Brooklyn district attorney who comes to town and pairs with Jackie Rhodes (Kevin Bacon), a townie FBI agent, to stop — you guessed it — a group of armored car robbers targeting Charleston, who hopefully don’t wear nun masks. If this is even half as entertaining as “The Town,” Showtime will have the best new show of 2019." - IndieWire

Ozark
6. Ozark Season 3 — Premieres August 31. Stream it on Netflix (Seasons 1 & 2 available on Netflix). How will the Marty and the Byrde family navigate the dangers they've created for themselves in the Ozarks in season 3?

About the series: Discover everything Radio Times knows and predicts for season 3 of the Emmy-nominated series...

7. Barry Season 2 — Premieres Spring 2019. Stream it on HBO (Season 1 on HBO). One of the funniest and under-the-radar shows on TV in 2018, how will Barry find a new life in Hollywood?

About the Series: "Bill Hader is back as Barry, the angst-ridden hitman who decides he wants to turn over a new leaf, end his life of crime and take acting classes in L.A. Except over the course of the excellent Season One, Barry learned he can’t quite leave the murder racket behind. Hader was superbly dark and poignant the first time around, in the role of his life (so far). Also returning: his acting teacher Henry Winkler, who keeps the Fonzarellissance going." - Rolling Stone
