What to Wear in Aspen: Men's Seasonal Style Guide | RES IPSA

Aspen, CO — There's no place else like home certainly rings true when home is Aspen. Not only is Aspen the home to our home—it's also home to our two stores Res Ipsa Aspen and Res Ipsa Home. The saying you'll hear in Aspen is this: "We came for the winter but stayed for the summer." This rings true for us, too.

We promise you there's no place else in the world like coming to Aspen in the winter. Someone close to us once said Aspen feels a little bit like walking around in a snow globe set in Soho if skyscrapers turned into mountains. This historic small mining town has evolved a lot in the last 150+ years. Aspen now offers a world-class retail and arts scene downtown that nearly surpasses its natural beauty.

Where else but Aspen would we want to show off our winter wardrobe? Similar to our men's style guides for What to Wear in LondonWhat to Wear in Paris, and What to Wear in LA, Aspen is a place like London, Paris, LA, NYC, and Tokyo to follow when it comes to style inspiration and advice for how men are dressing today. From A$AP Rocky to Kurt Russell (both customers) to your average, everyday locals, Aspen is becoming the worldwide, it winter destination to be anonymously cool and showcase your unique style. Gentlemen, if you're wondering what to wear in Aspen this winter, look no further.

Whether it's for après-ski, an afternoon stroll, or a dinner at Clark's, we want to help pack an ~unconventionally cool~ wardrobe for each occasion on your next Aspen trip.

We've created a short men's guide "What to Wear in Aspen: Men's Seasonal Style Guide" that includes visuals for how to dress. Pack your favorite puffer jacketkilim clogs, and read the full blog now live on our journal.

What to Wear Après-Ski

What to Wear in Aspen: Men's Seasonal Style Guide | RES IPSA
Before the  après-ski, you may actually enjoy skiing/snowboarding. We recommend layering your performance gear with a casual, breathable layer underneath: try a vintage t-shirt. You may also ride with one of our puffer jackets or puffer vests, or if you'd rather just skip the slopes entirely and sport either sitting fireside après-ski. If you often carry a small backpack when you ride, pack in it a DBLAB hat, a crochet scarf (available in stores only), and even a crochet blanket (available in-stores only), if there's room and depending on how cozy you want to be atop the mountain.

What to Wear for a Stroll Around Town

What to Wear in Aspen: Men's Seasonal Style Guide | RES IPSA

One of the many joys of Aspen is walking. You can pretty much walk everywhere—even in the winter. There are so many off-main street pockets of streets, sidewalks, and public walkways to explore. We recommend you dress to stay warm with each walk.

Layering is the solution for the coldest days—but surprisingly as long as it's sunny, you will likely just need a single outer layer for a casual walk. We recommend you start with a vintage t-shirt, and then add either a sweater or jacket. We recommend you try our cowichan sweater or a crochet bomber jacket. When paired with vintage 501 denim or painter pants (available in stores only), our signature beaver hat or a more modern DBLAB trucker hat, and kilim clogs or crochet mules, you will surely turn heads and stop others in their tracks.

What to Wear for an Evening Out

What to Wear in Aspen: Men's Seasonal Style Guide | RES IPSA

Packing for the evenings out in Aspen can be some of the most fun. What excites you in your wardrobe? What makes you feel good and brings you joy? Is it a favorite jacket? A color scheme? A matching set? A special accessory? A pair of shoes?

Your style is the feeling you have about yourself that you transfer to others, and going out in Aspen gives you some room to get creative and funky-Colorado cool with it.

For the first night, we recommend wearing our oxford button down (available in stores only), military pants and workshirt set (available in stores only), suede jacket with shearling collar, kilim loafers, beaver hat, cowhide wallet (available in stores only), crochet scarf (available in stores only), and patchwork coat (available in stores only).

For the other nights, we recommend our oxford button down (available in stores only), crochet workshirt or quilt workshirt jacketsuede jacket with shearling collarvintage 501 denimkilim clogsbeaver hat, cowhide wallet (available in stores only), crochet scarf (available in stores only), and patchwork coat (available in stores only).

What to Pack it all in?

We recommend packing a few bags ahead of your trip—some full and some empty.

We always travel with our carry-on size kilim weekender bag. If you really want to make a statement in the airport, go with our carry-on size cowhide weekender bag. Either way, don't forget to pack your dopp kit (available in stores only) with all your essentials, including your go-to fragrances. Perhaps you like our Yummy and Saucy fragrances.

We also always travel with an empty caba bag or two for all the shopping we do on our travels—and since it's a trip to Aspen, you'll be shopping. Save yourself the troubles and expenses ahead of time for overpriced luggage. Just roll up an empty caba bag or two in your luggage.

In conclusion, when packing for your next winter trip to Aspen, we believe you need to prioritize wearing what feels good, layering to adapt to Aspen's changing weather and activities, and bringing an extra bag—or two—for all the shopping. Now pack up, gentlemen!
