Traveling is one of the most powerful ways I’ve found to get out of my own head. It’s a beautiful reminder of how small we are in the best way. I’ve learned so much from travel. It’s opened my eyes and awareness around how powerfully our culture influences us.
What advice would you have for other women interested in traveling?
Go for it! My biggest piece of advice to really trust your gut. It’s served me so well in new places.
What’s one thing you can’t travel without?
My camera!
Have you experienced any inequalities traveling? If so, how do you manage them?
Oh man, definitely. I’m very mindful about where I travel and what companies I support. There are huge industries that can take over a local economy in a really negative way.
I try to combat that with research and taking a mindful approach. It’s so important to respect the people who’s homes you are visiting. Not everywhere is Disney Land.
Would you recommend solo traveling to others, especially women
Absolutely. Start with where you’re comfortable. Maybe that’s a weekend trip to a new city in your own country. I’ve learned so much and met so many amazing people from my solo traveling experiences. It gives you so much time to learn about yourself.
What’s your favorite trip you took last year?
At the beginning of 2017 I was in London for 3 months, which was a total dream trip. I lived by myself and spent my days exploring all around the city. I love England and London has a really special place in my heart.
What trip are you looking forward to this year?
I don’t have much planned, so hopefully something really cool with come together. I’ve really been loving domestic travel around the US. There are so many states and cities I haven’t seen that I can’t wait to explore.
What brands do you think of when you travel?
Besides Res Ipsa, to be totally honest I’m not super brand loyal in the travel space. I’m a really light and last minute packer. So I take what I have with what I have and really just focus on where I’m going.
What do you read or watch for travel news, inspiration, or updates?
I mean, Instagram gives me so many ideas for travel, but my favorite thing is to hear from friends about their adventures.
